Giving thanks for ‘past, present and future,’ cathedral celebrates 100 years at Locust Street location

St. Stephen Cathedral celebrated 100 years at its 610 Locust Street location with a Mass on Sept. 6. Bishop William F. Medley presided over the liturgy, which included concelebrants such as rector Fr. John Thomas, parochial vicar Fr. Christopher Grief, and parochial vicar Fr. Thomas Aslis.

During his homily, Bishop Medley noted the century of baptisms, First Holy Communions, and Confirmations held at the site. He described the cathedral as the Mother Church of the diocese and a place for various gatherings intended to celebrate the glory of God.

Following the Mass, the community held a celebration at the Owensboro Convention Center. The event included dinner, trivia, live music from the Owensboro Symphony String Trio, and an ice cream bar for children. Attendees also presented a time capsule that is scheduled to be buried at a later date.
