God Doesn’t Need Your Promises | One-Minute Homily

Joe Laughlin, SJ, reflected on the importance of fulfilling existing commitments rather than making new promises in a one-minute homily based on the readings for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Laughlin used a parable from Matthew 21 about two sons to illustrate that following through on actions is more difficult than offering words. He noted that people often act like the son who says yes but never shows up, whereas integrity requires matching words with deeds. Laughlin suggested that being honest and repenting for mistakes is better than maintaining a facade of false intentions. He concluded by asking for the grace to ensure that a person's verbal commitment to God is reflected in their actions.
