‘God Was Looking After Us’: Congressman Praises God For Saving His Life in a Plane Crash

U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany credited God for his survival after his plane crashed into Lake Wausau on Saturday night. The 68-year-old congressman, who is a Republican candidate for governor of Wisconsin, said he felt God's protection during the emergency landing.

The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza lost power while approaching the Wausau Downtown Airport as Tiffany was returning from a dinner in La Crosse County. Tiffany told reporters at a Wausau firehouse that the pilot, Leonard Boltz, warned him they were going down. After the aircraft hit the water, Tiffany and Boltz climbed onto the plane as it started to sink. They swam approximately 100 to 150 feet to reach shallow water where they could stand.

Boltz called 911 after they reached the shore, and emergency responders arrived by airboat shortly after 9 p.m. Tiffany said the reality of the situation began to set in the following day.
