Pope Leo XIV expressed deep sadness during his September 6, 2026, Angelus regarding recent violent attacks on several cities and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. The Pope noted that these attacks caused the deaths of innocent people and added that the population has lived in anguish and fear for years.

The Pope asked for an end to the violence and the destruction. He also called for hearts to open to dialogue and peace to resolve the conflict.
