Heart of the Beast — PG-13 (A-lll)

The adventure drama Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer, follows a civilian and his German shepherd, Odin, as they struggle to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. The film stars Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a former Special Forces Command Sgt. Maj. who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Belmont suffers a heart attack while piloting a plane, causing the aircraft to crash. He and Odin must trek 50-plus miles through the landscape to reach a highway. The film depicts Odin as a survivor of a recent conflict, featuring physical injuries such as a prosthetic leg and titanium false teeth.

Screenwriter Cameron Alexander wrote the script to highlight the bond between the man and his dog. Aside from a brief appearance by J.K. Simmons as a stranger, the production focuses almost entirely on the two protagonists.
