According to Monserrat Martinez for Aleteia, Sister Marilú's mother prayed for her birth in 1950 following a period of deep repentance. The mother had experienced an intentional abortion months earlier and feared that the consequences of that decision might prevent her new pregnancy from resulting in a successful birth.
