Those practicing this theological flat-earthism view theological plurality, doctrinal development, pastoral discernment, and contemporary teachings from the Magisterium as threats to a truth they believe is already perfectly defined. Di Benedetto suggests this behavior often stems from spiritual, cognitive, or emotional insecurity, leading individuals to seek a sense of safety through rigid religious certainty.

This attitude can manifest as digital aggression and a tendency to believe only what confirms existing opinions. Di Benedetto warns that a relationship with truth becomes unhealthy when individuals attempt to master the truth rather than serve it, potentially leading to suspicion toward the pope, the Council, theology, and science.
