Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, stated that words are not neutral in the Holy Land during the public presentation of the Within Your Gates initiative. Speaking at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute, the Patriarch explained that the events following October 7 have made traditional pastoral evaluation methods ineffective and have left local communities feeling without direction.

The Within Your Gates initiative serves as a space to rethink the Christian mission, language, and presence in the region following the trauma of the October 7 attacks. During the event, which was moderated by journalist Alessandra Buzzetti, the Patriarch noted that the current level of polarization has impacted interreligious dialogue and that the Church must find a new theological and pastoral path to avoid leaving the current situation to the next generation.
