Il Papa: “Roma non è lo sfondo indifferente delle nostre comunità: è il luogo della nostra missione”

Pope Leo XIV presided over a diocesan assembly at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran to officially open the pastoral year. The gathering included priests, religious sisters, and lay faithful from across the Diocese of Rome. During the event, the Church announced the start of the canonization cause for Don Luigi Di Liegro, who founded Caritas in Rome.

In his address, the Pope stated that Rome is not an indifferent background for local communities but is instead the location of their mission. He used questions from the Gospel regarding Mary Magdalene to encourage the diocese and the city to seek hope.

Cardinal Baldo Reina, the Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome, welcomed the Pope and noted that his presence helps the community feel that Rome is a particular Church where the Pope serves as bishop and pastor.
