In Chicago, a Catholic community organizer is using faith to resist ICE

Joanna Arellano-Gonzalez and the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership are involved in a court case against the Trump administration. Arellano-Gonzalez helped found the group in 2017.

The group's activities include religious demonstrations, such as a procession where a priest carried a monstrance near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview on October 11, 2025.
