Interfaith Coalition Displays Gaza Children’s Memorial: ‘We Need to Care for Them’

An interfaith coalition of human rights organizations displayed a section of the Gaza Children’s Shroud at the United Nations on Sept. 16. The display occurred while world leaders gathered for annual meetings. The portion of the cloth brought to the U.N. contains the handwritten names of more than 6,000 children killed in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023.

Justice for All, Priests Against Genocide USA, and Doctors Against Genocide participated in the display. Imam Saffet Catovic, the director of U.N. operations for Justice for All, stated that all children deserve care regardless of their origin. Martha Miller, a member of Doctors Against Genocide, said that faith requires people to speak up for dead children.

The full shroud is a 330-foot cloth featuring more than 20,000 names. Since its 2025 debut in Italy, the memorial has traveled globally. Organizers plan to assemble all sections of the shroud in Washington, D.C., during October.
