Irriżenja mill-inkjesta Daphne minħabba indħil kontinwu mill-ministru

Former judge Vincent De Gaetano stated he resigned from the Daphne Caruana Galizia public inquiry because of continuous interference from the government, specifically from the then justice minister Owen Bonnici.

During an interview on Campus FM, De Gaetano said Bonnici contacted him in August 2019 to ask him to lead the inquiry. De Gaetano explained that after he accepted the request, Bonnici began providing suggestions that amounted to interference.

These suggestions included disagreements over the terms of reference and the composition of the board. De Gaetano noted that the terms of reference allowed the board to regulate its own procedures, but he received emails from the minister containing suggestions on various matters. De Gaetano also stated that Bonnici suggested there should be one public report, similar to the Egrant case.
