Is Narnia's Aslan really like Jesus? I’m having second thoughts

Msgr. Richard Antall expressed concern regarding the casting of Meryl Streep to voice Aslan in the upcoming Netflix production of The Magician’s Nephew, which is scheduled for release in February 2027. Because Aslan serves as a Christ figure in C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, Antall suggested the casting choice is strange.

Antall linked the casting to director Greta Gerwig, noting her 2018 comments about finding the concept of God the Father alienating. One commentator cited in the report described the casting as a deliberate mockery of Christianity and an insult to Lewis. Antall noted that while Streep might suit the role of the evil witch Jadis, the choice for the character of Aslan remains questionable.
