Jesus preaches parable of vineyard

Jesus used a parable about a vineyard to provide an overview of salvation history, according to Father Ervens Mengelle, IVE, SSL. In the teaching, Jesus indicated that the vineyard will continue to exist but will no longer be held by unfaithful tenants.

The vineyard serves as a national and religious symbol for Israel, representing the nation as the vine of God. This imagery was physically present to Jewish people visiting the Jerusalem Temple. The historian Flavius Josephus described how King Herod renewed the temple, noting that a golden vine with hanging branches was spread out over the entrance.
