Jubilee Year of Saint Francis: Transitus and Day of Reflection to be held in Green Bay

The Franciscan community in Green Bay will hold a Transitus and Day of Reflection on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Mary of the Angels Parish. The event celebrates the life and spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi under the theme "Pilgrims of Hope in the Footsteps of St. Francis."

The gathering is part of the Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, which Pope Leo XIV proclaimed to run from January 10, 2026, through January 10, 2027. This year marks the 800th anniversary of the death, or Transitus, of St. Francis. Participants may be eligible to receive a plenary indulgence through pilgrimage, participation in Jubilee rites, or prayerful meditation, provided they meet standard Church conditions including sacramental confession, receiving holy Communion, and praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.

The scheduled activities at the 650 S. Irwin Ave. location begin at 12 p.m. with a blessing of the animals. Following a welcome and opening prayer at 12:30 p.m., Fr. Bill Stout, OFM, will speak at 1 p.m. on the topic of being a bridge during the Year of St. Francis. Sr. Elise Cholewinski, OSF, is also scheduled to lead a reflection.
