Kauai community comes through after Hurricane Lowell

Kauai residents provided food, water, and cleanup assistance to one another following Hurricane Lowell, which passed the island on September 7 and 8. Father EJ Resinto, pastor of St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Kapaa, noted that the community worked together to ensure everyone was safe before the storm arrived.

The Category 2 storm brought heavy winds and significant rainfall to the area. According to the University of Hawaii, Mount Waialeale received more than 23 inches of rain within a 24-hour period. While weather stations at lower elevations recorded average winds of 56 miles per hour, experts estimate wind speeds reached approximately 100 miles per hour on higher ridges.
