Kenya marks 23rd death anniversary of Servant of God Michael Maurice Cardinal Otunga

Kenya commemorated the 23rd death anniversary of Servant of God Michael Maurice Cardinal Otunga on September 5 at the Resurrection Garden in the Nairobi Catholic Archdiocese. The event honored the late cardinal, who is buried at the garden, by recalling his leadership and personal holiness.

Father Lawrence Njoroge, the vice postulator for the beatification cause, stated that testimonies regarding the cardinal's prayerfulness, humility, and commitment to the Church in Kenya continue to support the cause for his beatification. Njoroge noted that Cardinal Otunga was a pioneer in the history of the Church in Eastern Africa, having helped establish the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa in 1961 alongside Uganda's Servant of God Bishop Vincent Joseph McCauley.

Archbishop Philip Subira Anyolo of Nairobi is the petitioner for the cause. He monitors developments through correspondence with the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints and visits to Rome.
