La ansiada reliquia del desconocido patrón de la ciudad de Málaga

The cathedral chapter of Málaga received a relic of San Luis de Tolosa on Thursday, July 17, 1713, following years of requests to the Church in Valencia. The relic, a silver reliquary shaped like a lantern, was escorted to the cathedral during a general procession attended by parishes and religious communities.

The chapter had previously faced many denials when requesting the relic from the location of the saint's tomb. Francisco del Castillo y Fajardo, a captain general of that kingdom and a native of the area, used his position and influence to secure the donation. San Luis, the son of Carlos II of France, was a Franciscan who died at age 23. His feast day on August 19 historically coincided with the 1487 takeover of the city by Castilian troops.
