La lucha de Portugal contra el Islam en las aguas del Índico (1502 – 1514)

Pedro Álvares Cabral led a Portuguese expedition to the Indian subcontinent in 1500 to establish a permanent trading post and pursue holy war against Islam. This voyage departed six months after Vasco da Gama returned to Portugal.

The fleet included thirteen ships and a delegation of Franciscan friars intended to instruct Indians in the faith. Before the departure, King Manuel I blessed the royal standard and accompanied the fleet to the mouth of the Tajo.
