President Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian have each signed a protocol to end a four-month conflict, according to Jean-Marie Rousseau for ZENIT News Agency. While G7 members described the protocol as a historic opportunity, the United States has chosen a path of compromise with a regime it previously identified as a primary source of global instability and war.

The protocol involves 300 billion € in reparations for the reconstruction of Iran. Rousseau notes that these funds will come largely from neighboring countries, which may allow Iranian proxy groups to continue receiving significant material and financial support.

Rousseau characterizes the outcome as a bitter capitulation for the Iranian people. He compares the situation to Munich and suggests the current era is a declining civilization.
