Pope Leo XIV reflected on the parable of the workers invited to the vineyard during the Angelus prayer on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Speaking to pilgrims in St. Peter's Square, the Pope used the Gospel story to discuss how people often resist God's generous justice and greater love.

The Pope noted that the parable describes workers who labored for different lengths of time, including those who worked only a few hours or started at sunset. He explained that the central point of the story relates to the nature of God's mercy.

During his address, Leo XIV also referenced the prophet Isaiah to encourage people to leave crooked paths and return to God. He stated that God's plans are much larger and more human than those conceived by people.
