Archbishop Ettore Balestrero told the United Nations on September 14 that development is both a duty and a right for everyone. Speaking at the 73rd session of the Unctad Council in Geneva, the Holy See's permanent observer addressed the challenges of a modern economy.

Balestrero noted that poverty is worsening within an increasingly digitalized economy. He stated that access to technology, connectivity, and digital skills is essential for development.
