La Virgen de la Merced cuestiona mi conciencia

Monsignor Florencio Rosello, a member of the Mercedarian Order, shared reflections on the importance of viewing prisoners as brothers rather than criminals or social dangers. Writing for the Diocese of Pamplona y Tudela, Rosello noted that his visits to prisons prompt him to question why certain individuals end up incarcerated while others do not.

He suggested that differences in upbringing, childhood care, and life opportunities often influence these outcomes. Rosello stated that he seeks to avoid moralism or pity, instead focusing on the need to see incarcerated people as individuals with a future.

The priest linked these reflections to the Virgin of Mercy, noting that her message to Saint Peter Nolasco, the founder of the Mercedarian Order, emphasizes seeing those who are captive. Rosello concluded that the Virgin of Mercy calls for welcoming and accepting people rather than separating or rejecting them.
