Las manos siempre tendidas del Cardenal Ángel Herrera Oria

The Diocese of Málaga preserves plaster casts of the face and hands of Cardinal Ángel Herrera Oria as sacred relics. The sculptor José María Palma Burgos created these casts following the death of the former bishop of Málaga in Madrid on August 28, 1968.

The diocese uses these casts to maintain an accurate likeness of the cardinal, which helped Palma Burgos create a bronze bust for the cardinal's tomb and a statue located at the postigo de los Abades. The cathedral chapter keeps the plaster casts alongside other personal items belonging to the prelate.

The preservation of these items supports the cause for his canonization, which opened on January 25, 1996. The diocese recognizes him as a servant of God, noting his social, educational, and political contributions to the Church during the 20th century.
