Pope Leo XIV presided over Holy Mass for the Care of Creation at the Garden of the Madonnina in Castel Gandolfo on September 1, 2026. The celebration took place at 6:30 p.m. in the Borgo Laudato si’ area of the Pontifical Gardens to mark the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

During his homily, the Pope said the day's liturgical readings invite people to contemplate the works of God. He noted that the Book of Wisdom encourages people to look at the beauty and power of creation to appreciate its Creator. He also mentioned that Psalm 18 urges people to look at the heavens to see the glory of God.

The Pope connected the beauty of nature to God's love for humanity, referencing the Gospel of Matthew. He said that observing birds and lilies helps people understand how much God cares for them.
