Léon XIV en France du 25 au 28 septembre

Pope Leo XIV will visit France from September 25 to 28, 2026. This apostolic visit follows an invitation from Cardinal Aveline, the archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, who extended the request after the election of Francis Prevost to the papacy. The French president also supported the request during a meeting in Rome in April 2026.

The chosen dates in late September were selected to accommodate the pope's schedule and avoid proximity to French elections. This trip marks the first full apostolic visit to France since Benedict XVI visited Paris and Lourdes in 2008. While Pope Francis traveled to Strasbourg, Marseille, and Ajaccio on specific occasions, he did not conduct an official apostolic visit to the country.

Father Jean-Philippe Morin, the assistant secretary to the French Bishops' Conference, noted that many faithful across all dioceses are expecting the visit.
