Pope Leo XIV approves beatification cause of Luigi Di Liegro

Pope Leo XIV has approved the decision to begin the beatification cause for Luigi Di Liegro, the founder and first director of the diocesan Caritas in Rome. The announcement was made during the diocesan assembly at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran on September 18 to mark the start of the new pastoral year.

The approval allows for a diocesan inquiry into the life, virtues, and reputation for holiness of Di Liegro, a priest who died in 1997. During the assembly, the Pope described Di Liegro as an example for the Church to follow.

Luigina Di Liegro, the niece of the priest and founder of the Di Liegro Foundation, attended the announcement. She stated that her uncle remains a guide for the Diocese of Rome and a source of motivation to continue his mission of service.
