Martin Dumont is tracing 80 years of relations between the Holy See and France, covering the period from Pope John XXIII to Pope Leo XIV.

Dumont, a doctor in history at the Sorbonne and secretary general of the Institut de recherche pour l’étude des religions, examines the intellectual, spiritual, and sometimes conflicting connections between the papacy and the social and political changes in contemporary French society.
