Pope Leo XIV has invited bishops in Latin America to reflect on their ministry through the life of Saint Turibe de Mogrovejo. In a letter dated September 8, 2026, the pope made this proposal to mark the third centenary of the canonization of the former Archbishop of Lima.

The pope wrote the letter in response to a request from Peruvian bishops. He noted that Saint Turibe, the patron saint of bishops in Latin America, is known for his evangelizing zeal, his work in renewing Church life, and his closeness to the poor and vulnerable.

Pope Leo XIV expressed gratitude for his own experience serving as a bishop in Peru, stating that the faith of the people there helped him understand the meaning of being a pastor. He connected his own experience to Saint Turibe, who also arrived from elsewhere to serve the region through pastoral charity.
