Local interfaith coalition travels to Delaney Hall
Nearly 50 clergy and lay leaders from various faith traditions visited the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility in Newark on Oct. 6. The interfaith group, led by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Camden and Cherry Hill, traveled by bus from the Cherry Hill church to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.
The coalition included priests, sisters, rabbis, and representatives from the Quaker community. Participants visited the facility to offer prayers and support to families and friends visiting incarcerated individuals.
Father Kenneth Hallahan, a retired priest of the Diocese of Camden, noted that the visit included witnessing the release of a father from the detention center, accompanied by his two teenage children from East Camden. Hallahan stated the group intended to witness to the dignity of all people, particularly those held in the detention center.
