Long Dead, Long Resurrected

The San Xavier del Bac Mission in Tucson stands as a historic site rooted in the work of the Jesuit missionary Padre Kino. Kino first established a hut at the O’odham village of Wa:k in 1692. He named the mission San Xavier del Bac to honor St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missionary to Japan.

The current white adobe church was built in 1797. The structure features classical mission architecture with stucco arches and large bell towers.
