Pontifical delegates of IVE communicate conclusions of canonical processes on Buela

Pontifical delegates for the IVE and the SSVM have informed members of both institutes that ecclesiastical courts found founder Carlos Miguel Buela responsible for sexual misconduct.

According to an official statement released September 24, both the special first instance penal tribunal and the appellate tribunal reached moral certainty regarding Buela's responsibility for committing a crime against the sixth commandment through violence against several people under canon 1395 §2.

The delegates, Monsignor José Antonio Satué Huerto for the IVE and Sister Clara Echarte Oñate for the SSVM, issued the announcement alongside Sister Simona Brambilla. A letter sent to members on September 23 explained that the special penal tribunal was established by decree on May 14, 2020, to examine complaints against Buela. The tribunal reached its conclusions after hearing testimony from Buela, his lawyer, and numerous witnesses.
