Pope Leo XIV revoked salary cuts for Vatican employees through a Motu Proprio issued on September 14. This decision cancels a 2021 measure by Pope Francis that reduced the pay of curial cardinals, heads and secretaries of Dicasteries, clerics, and religious members during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The previous reductions ranged from 3% to 10%. While the cuts were originally implemented to address the financial challenges of the pandemic, they had already undergone partial modifications through a Rescriptum on June 16, 2025.

The revocation follows reports that Vatican finances have shown a slow path toward improvement, with the most recent consolidated budget for 2024-2025 recording a positive trend.
