The Archdiocese of Naxos, Andros, Tinos, and Mykonos released a study of the Gospel of the day on September 21, 2026, to mark the feast of Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist.

The study features a reflection by Don Luigi Maria Epicoco regarding the Gospel reading from Matthew 9:9-13. In the passage, Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to follow him, and Matthew subsequently joins Jesus and his disciples for a meal with other tax collectors and sinners. When the Pharisees question why Jesus eats with such people, he responds that those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but those who are sick do, adding that he came to call sinners rather than the righteous.

Don Luigi Maria Epicoco notes that the Gospel describes Matthew as sitting at the tax office, which he identifies as the posture of Matthew's life before meeting Christ. He suggests that conversion involves more than just an ethical change or stopping wrong behaviors.
