Mother Teresa spent much of her early life working as a teacher before founding her religious order to serve the poor in India.

While many people recognize her for her white sari or for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she held a teaching career prior to her work on the streets of Calcutta. Yohana Rodríguez reports that her background as an educator preceded her mission to help those in need.
