Magdala serves as a significant archaeological site on the northwest shore of Tiberias, offering pilgrims a connection to the world of the Gospel. Excavations at the site have revealed first-century harbors, streets, residential areas, and a synagogue, which indicate that the area was a vibrant Galilean town during the time of Jesus.

The location is specifically associated with Mary Magdalene, whom the Church recognizes as a woman healed by Jesus who remained faithful to him through the crucifixion and became the first to announce the Resurrection to the apostles.
