Ryan Mifsud Schembri, a 37-year-old Maltese police sergeant specializing in counter-terrorism, will trek to Everest Base Camp to raise funds and awareness for victims of terrorism. The expedition is scheduled to begin on September 24.

Mifsud Schembri intends to support the Terrorism Response Network of Victim Support Europe. This network helps identify people affected by mass violence and provides them with access to necessary support services. Through this challenge, he aims to highlight the impact of terrorism on families, witnesses, and communities who continue to live with the consequences of such attacks.

Mifsud Schembri has worked in counter-terrorism for 19 years and is currently seconded to Europol in the Netherlands as a national expert. He noted that the 2015 attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the Bataclan in France strengthened his commitment to his field. He stated that while a terrorist attack may only last minutes, the consequences can affect people for many years. The trek will involve an organized group and local guides to reach the base camp.
