Mexique : Un prêtre assassiné

Father Román de la Cruz was killed by gunfire on September 15 in the Huejutla region of Mexico. His body was found abandoned by the side of a road. According to press reports, a threatening message was discovered near his body, though the specific contents of the message have not been released.

Father de la Cruz served as the pastor of the Santa Cruz community since 2024 and coordinated the diocesan commission for prophetic pastoral work. The Huejutla region is heavily impacted by criminal organizations that compete for control over routes used for fuel theft.

The Mexican Episcopal Conference expressed sadness and indignation regarding the killing, calling on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the violence against the Church. Bishop José Acosta Beltrán of the Diocese of Huejutla also called for justice and an end to impunity for such crimes. The Mexican Catholic Multimedia Center reported that the prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the case.
