Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael: Meet the 3 great archangels of the Bible

The Church celebrates the feast day of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael on Sept. 29. These three archangels are traditionally honored together as symbols of protection, healing, and petition.

Michael Aquilina, executive vice president and trustee of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, stated that devotion to St. Michael has existed since before the beginning of the Church. He noted that Michael is the most frequently named and invoked angel and often appears in history-changing apparitions.

Biblical accounts of Michael appear in the Book of Daniel, where he is described as a great prince in charge of God's people, in the Book of Jude, where he battles Satan over the body of Moses, and in the Book of Revelation, where he wages war against the dragon.
