Migrant Cross pilgrimage arrives in Adelaide this month

The Migrant Jubilee Cross arrives in Adelaide on September 23 after traveling through much of Australia for nearly a year. Archbishop Patrick O’Regan will celebrate a special Mass to welcome the cross, which travels on a boat shaped base made of Australian timber. The design represents the journeys of migrants and refugees across land and sea, while the boat symbolizes the Church as a safe harbor for the displaced.

The cross serves as a traveling reliquary containing relics of the Holy Family. During its visit, the cross is expected to visit St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, St Gabriel’s primary school, Mary MacKillop College, and the Vietnamese Catholic community. It will depart for Darwin on Monday, September 28.

This national pilgrimage is organized by the Australian Catholic Bishops Commission for Evangelisation to mark the jubilee of migrants and recognize the resilience and contributions of migrant communities. The tour will have visited approximately 28 dioceses and eparchies across Australia by the time it concludes in October.
