The Cairo court of appeals ruled on May 25, 2025, that property rights belong to the Egyptian state. This decision affects the future of the Orthodox monastic presence at Monastero del Sinai and involves Egypt, Greece, the American administration, and the patriarchates and primatial seats of Costantinopoli, Gerusalemme, and Atene.

A solution regarding property rights is emerging through the work of dedicated commissions and the involvement of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Archimandrita-vescovo Simeone Papadopoulos was also elected as the new superiore-igumeno, although the election was contested.
