Mons. Yazlovetskyi describes life in Kyiv

Bishop Oleksandr Yazlovetskyi, president of Caritas-Spes Ukraine, described the daily reality of living in Kyiv amid continuous warfare. He reported that air raid sirens, drone noises, gunfire, and explosions occur almost every hour, often disrupting the celebration of Mass. Yazlovetskyi noted that children frequently move to underground shelters with teachers to continue their lessons.

During his account, Yazlovetskyi observed Russian drones flying over the center of Kyiv and felt a large explosion shake his multi-story building. He stated that it is often unclear during such moments whether a drone was shot down or a building was hit until later. He added that the world appears to be growing tired of the war, though he believes it is impossible to get used to the violence.

The bishop's comments followed reports of numerous attacks in the capital that left 28 people injured, including three children, and resulted in the death of one woman. These remarks come as the Pope has requested the recitation of the Rosary throughout October to pray for an end to global conflicts.
