Monsenhor João de Deus Góis dies

Monsignor João de Deus Góis died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 92. The Diocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro identified him as the retired pastor of the Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Del Castilho.

During his 65 years of priesthood, Monsignor Góis entered the seminary at age 14. The diocese noted his dedication to prayer, the liturgy, and service to the people of God.

A wake will take place Monday, September 21, at the Basílica São Francisco Xavier in Tijuca starting at 9h. A Mass will be celebrated at 10h, followed by funeral rites at 14h30. Burial is scheduled for 16h at the Cemitério São Francisco Xavier in Caju.
