Monsignor J. Michael Flood dies

Monsignor J. Michael Flood, the pastor emeritus of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish in Glenside, died on September 28, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia on July 14, 1939, Monsignor Flood was ordained on May 18, 1968, by John Cardinal Krol at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. He served as a parochial vicar at Saint Patrick Parish in Malvern and Saint Malachy Parish in Philadelphia. His teaching career included positions at Cardinal O’Hara High School, Saint John Neumann High School, and Saint Maria Goretti High School. After serving as pastor of Saint Madeleine Sophie Parish in Philadelphia, he became the pastor of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish in 1995 and was named pastor emeritus in July 2012. He was named an honorary prelate to Pope John Paul II in 2003.

The reception of his body will take place at Saint Luke the Evangelist Church on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. Bishop Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate the funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Bishop Edward J. Adams will serve as the homilist.
