Morre aos 90 anos Dom Dadeus Grings, arcebispo emérito de Porto Alegre

Dom Dadeus Grings, the archbishop emeritus of Porto Alegre, died Monday, September 21, at the age of 90. He had been in the intensive care unit at Dom João Becker Hospital in Gravataí since Thursday, September 17, following an ischemic stroke. The stroke occurred while he was visiting a niece in Linha Imperial, located in the municipality of Nova Petrópolis.

The Archdiocese of Porto Alegre previously reported that his clinical condition had worsened and requested prayers from the faithful. A wake began on Monday, and a funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil expressed solidarity with the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre, the family, and friends of Dom Dadeus. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary also remembered his episcopal ministry, noting his dedication to preaching the Gospel, faith education, and pastoral care.
