Mount Melleray comes alive again: a day of faith, crowds and new beginnings

Thousands of people gathered at Mount Melleray Abbey on September 20 to attend a Mass marking a new chapter for the site. The large crowd filled the central nave and side sections of the church, with additional seating placed along the corridors and people gathered outside to follow the liturgy via speakers.

The gathering included Ave Maria University students, who are scheduled to live at Mount Melleray for the coming months. Fr. Martin Keogh, parish priest of Cappoquin, was among the priests who concelebrated the Mass. The event follows a period of renovation for the abbey after it faced an uncertain future last year.
