The Pope celebrated Holy Mass at the Sanctuary of the Mother of Good Counsel in Genazzano on September 7, 2026. During the liturgy, he celebrated the vigil of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In his homily, the Pope described the sanctuary and the Mother of Good Counsel as sources of maternal presence and wisdom that accompanied him throughout his life. He asked for the Virgin Mary's good counsel to help people accept the Word of God and make courageous decisions that lead to true conversion.

The Pope also referenced the teachings of St. Thomas of Villanova, an Augustinian monk and bishop who served the poor. He noted the paradox of Mary's humble position in history despite her central role in the history of salvation.
