Nairobi Catholic Archbishop Urges Kenyans to Embrace Cardinal Otunga’s Legacy of Humble Service

Archbishop Philip Subira Anyolo of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi called on Kenyan Catholics to follow the example of Servant of God Michael Maurice Cardinal Otunga by choosing humility, prayer, and generous service over wealth or social influence.

Speaking at a Mass on September 5 at the Resurrection Garden in Nairobi, where Cardinal Otunga is buried, Archbishop Anyolo marked the 23rd anniversary of the Cardinal's death. He said the annual commemoration serves as a time to thank God for the Cardinal's life and to consider how his witness affects the responsibilities of the faithful today.

Cardinal Otunga was the first Kenyan born Catholic Cardinal. He served the Church as a priest, bishop, and Archbishop of Nairobi before joining the College of Cardinals.
