Nigerian bishop says over 200 churches have been destroyed in his archdiocese (The Guardian (Lagos))

Auxiliary Bishop John Maiduguri Bakeni of Maiduguri said more than 200 churches have been destroyed in his archdiocese since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009.

During a sermon on September 16, Bishop Bakeni noted that despite ongoing violence involving gunfire and bombs, Catholics continue to attend Mass in full numbers. He attributed the survival of the diocese to God's grace while honoring the courage of the martyrs Saints Cornelius and Cyprian.
