Nombramientos episcopales en México: Patrón Wong a Puebla y Querétaro recibe al guanajuatense Aguilar Ledesma

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Jorge Carlos Patrón Wong as the new archbishop of Puebla and Víctor Alejandro Aguilar Ledesma as the new bishop of Querétaro. The Mexican Episcopal Conference announced these changes on Monday, September 21, 2026.

The appointments follow the resignations of Víctor Sánchez Espinosa and Fidencio López Plaza, both of whom reached the age of 75. Patrón Wong, the current archbishop of Xalapa, will become the ninth archbishop of Puebla. The archdiocese of Puebla stated that Sánchez Espinosa will serve as apostolic administrator until Patrón Wong takes office on Thursday, November 19, 2026.

Aguilar Ledesma, currently the bishop of Celaya, succeeds López Plaza as the eleventh bishop of Querétaro. López Plaza has led the Querétaro diocese since 2020.
